Silk scarves for Mothers‘ Day accompanied by coffee and cake
Museum Day is Family Day at Haus der Seidenkultur
On “International Museum Day” you are invited to “Visit Haus der Seidenkultur on Family Day” and experience for yourself the wide range on offer for all ages in the Südbahnhof (Saumstraße 9) where the HdS is temporarily located for the duration of the refurbishment measures at the actual museum building.
Whilst parents can learn more about how the pattern was transferred to the loom in Krefeld and how the town first developed into a textile location, children and youngsters have an opportunity to take part in a free workshop from 12.00 to 16.00 hours.
“This project involves decorating a silk scarf for their mother by applying their own colour creations,” says museum educationalist Christel Naber. “And true to the motto of the day, we want to unite generations, remember the past and shape the future.”
A glance into the future shows that Krefeld is still a textile town. “Nowadays silk and velvet no longer occupy centre stage but rather synthetic fibres which are processed by high-tech weavers to bullet-proof vests, fencing suits and textile architecture,” says Dieter Brenner from HdS referring to another topic of the Museum Day.
HdS is open on Sunday in the Südbahnhof from 11.00 to 18.00 hours. Coffee and cake will be served during this period.
