From Südbahnhof back to Haus der Seidenkultur
“Back to our own museum” is the rallying cry amongst the volunteers from the Haus der Seidenkultur (HdS) at the moment. After almost two and a half years of “asylum” in the Südbahnhof, “this transition period has now ended,” says HdS press spokesperson Dieter Brenner. And: “From 4th April we can be found in Luisenstraße 15 once again!”
That is the address of the former Hubert Gotzes weaving factory for ecclesiastical textiles, the current museum Haus der Seidenkultur, where the refurbishment measures and the implementation of the current fire precaution standards have been virtually completed.

Some 30 youngsters from the Netherlands and Krefeld who had booked a HdS Workshop as part of an exchange meeting organised by a secondary school in Oppum, were amongst the last guests able to visit the HdS exhibition in the Südbahnhof.
“We are moving back in March”, says Brenner. Therefore it will not be possible to visit the museum during this month. It is, however, still possible to book tours by coach or on foot along the silk route in the town.

Without wanting to pre-empt the announcement of the numerous changes which will be made at a press conference on 19th March – here are the new opening times of the refurbished Haus der Seidenkultur Museum: 
Open every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday from 15.00 to 18.00 hours. Also on Sundays from 13.00 to 17.00 hours. On 1st and 3rd. Sunday in the month there is a guided tour starting at 15.00 hours.
