Visible Construction Progress at Haus der Seidenkultur
Surveying phase completed, now in refurbishment phase

“Now there is visible construction progress at Haus der Seidenkultur HdS” says Hansgeorg Hauser, who in recent days has often been seen on site at the former weaving workshop for ecclesiastical textiles. As Chairman of the Association of Friends, Hauser has, as it were, declared the refurbishment to be top priority.

“In the meantime the surveying measures have been completed and implementation of the refurbishment measures has started”, says Hauser. The building which was constructed in 1868 at Luisenstrasse 15, has been structurally reinforced to ensure stability for the next 100 years. Four reinforced concrete frames have been installed from the foundation to the roof to ensure that in future the building is not subjected to dangerous levels of vibration when the looms are operated.

Fire prevention refurbishment measures are also being implemented at the “Four-window House”; these include the construction of new escape routes and emergency exits. Special walls which meet the specifications laid down by the town have already been installed. “At the moment we are confident that we can meet the target which we have set and re-open our museum again in spring 2014,” says Hauser.

However, behind each stone lies a new surprise. This has led to an increase of 10% in the building costs to some EUR 360.000. “We therefore still need every Euro which people are willing to give”, says Hauser calling upon the population to donate and once again indicating the bank account of the Haus der Seidenkultur.:
Sparkasse Krefeld, Donation account 342642, Bank Code: 320 500 00.

“We build on culture”, reads the motto of the Deutschen Stiftung Denkmalschutz attached to the facade of Haus der Seidenkultur at Luisenstraße 15.
