Exhibition to mark the 20th anniversary of the International Textile Art Group Krefeld
VerBindungen der Seidenkultur (Interwoven Silk Culture) Exhibition to mark the 20th anniversary of the International Textile Art Group Krefeld

“VerBindungen” (Interwoven) is the title of the next (temporary) exhibition to be presented by the Haus der Seidenkultur (HdS) from Tuesday, 3rd October, in Südbahnhof at Saumstraße 9. “This exhibition marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of the International Textile Art Group Krefeld,” explains curator Ortrud Eckelboom directing the focus to “Textile and Krefeld” which are closely interlinked.

Over the various epochs with their different facets, Krefeld was and still is well known as the ‘Silk and Velvet Town’ far beyond the boundaries of Germany. “This has repeatedly motivated the Textile Art Group in their artistic presentations, thereby underlining the bond with Krefeld,” summarises Eckelboom.

And: “In numerous presentations in Germany, neighbouring countries and even in Korea, the members of the Textile Art Group have succeeded in focussing public attention on textile art. The anniversary exhibition therefore reflects just a fraction of those VerBindungen (interwoven bonds) which have been created over the past 20 years.”

The exhibits present old textiles and manual techniques which have been interlinked in an artistic process and as a result rediscovered and presented. This involves the skills sculpture, gold thread embroidery, painting, pottery, paper-making, pearl embroidery, textile design, sketching, weaving, embroidery and sewing.

The accompanying exhibition text explains: “The different attitudes of the individual artists provide a range of ideas for possible designs combining a variety of materials and textile structures.”

Works by the following artists are exhibited in Südbahnhof : The curator Ortrud-Sophie Eckelboom, Gabrielle Eichholtz, Angelika Hecht-Schneewolf, Monika Karcher, Elise Kloppers, Ute Kühr, Ursula Lindner, Helga Mewes, Prof. Annette Pöllmann, Alexandra Röhrs, Dorothea Sprothen-Scheidt and guests.

The exhibition runs until 10.01.2013 and can be visited each first and third Sunday in the month from 11.00 to 16.00 hours, as well as every 4th Thursday in the month from 16.00 to 19.00 hours and upon appointment under Telephone 510812.
