Haus der Seidenkultur at Christmas Markets

During Advent, “Haus der Seidenkultur” (HdS) has planned numerous pre-Christmas activities. On Saturday, 3rd December we have, for the first time, a stand at the “Special” Christmas Market on the square in front of the “Alte Kirche”, says master weaver Günter Oehms, publicising the presence of HdS

One week later, the museum’s educational staff will be putting the “Living Loom” into action at the Kinderhaus (adjacent to the Dionysius Church) at the Krefeld Christmas Market. That will take place on Friday, 9th December from 15.00 to 20.00 hours.

“We are using the Christmas markets primarily as a public platform to obtain more donations to preserve the historic weaving workshop in the Luisenstrasse”, says Hansgeorg Hauser, Chairman of the Association of Friends. “Children carefully make gifts from silk and velvet” each Advent Saturday in the “Crefelder Südbahnhof” where HdS workshops are being held from 10.00 to 13.00 hours. There are still free places on 3rd, 10th and 17th December.

It costs 15 €per child to take part in these creative activities, 10 € for those who have a family ticket. This includes all the materials and surprise Christmas snacks. Call tel. no. 510812 to book a place.
