Click-clack can be heard during the intervals of the Creinvelt Association Events

Click-clack can be heard during the intervals of the Creinvelt Association Events this year in the foyer of the Mercure Parkhotel Krefelder Hof. There the Haus der Seidenkultur (HdS) has set up a nostalgic foot-treadle floor loom. Master hand weaver, Günter Oehms, demonstrates how once upon a time the weaver outworkers earned their living in the typical Krefeld houses with two windows and reveals that:
“Weavers were seldom wealthy!“

With this article, HdS would like to express its thanks to Creinvelt, the Association for the Preservation, Promotion and Spread of Local Customs, for its donation of EUR 28000 towards the refurbishment of the museum in the Luisenstraße. This is the largest donation made by a single association.

“It is very important to us that this unique jewel preserved,” says Creinvelt Chairman, Wilhelm Havermann (left), who gives Günter Oehms a pat on the shoulder in recognition for his voluntary commitment.           Photos: HdS
