How is the designer cup for the Krefeld Silk Culture progressing?
Silk and Velvet Round Table in Hochschule Niederrhein
At present students from the design faculty of the Hochschule Niederrhein are developing a cup for Haus der Seidenkultur (HdS). The current status of the project is the key focus of the “Silk and Velvet Round Table” which will have the opportunity to look over the students’ shoulders whilst they are working at the college on Wednesday, 12th June from 16.00 to 18.00 hours.
Prof. Jochen Stücke and graduate designer Knut Michalk, both of whom head the course have invited the HdS discussion group to an exciting encounter for both sides. It will be particularly interesting for the HdS team to see how the students apply their initial ideas relating to the museum topic, i.e. presenting past craftsmanship and the history of the “Silk and Velvet Town” in a lively manner; and for the students it will be exciting to see what the first reactions are.
“If we were able to present the cup at the re-opening of our site in the Luisenstrasse following the refurbishment, it would be a further highlight”, says HdS spokesman Dieter Brenner. And: “We are particularly proud of the fact that the design faculty which can look back on more than 100 years of tradition in design work in Krefeld has accepted the project.”
The “Silk and Velvet Round Table” is a series of events open to the public organised by HdS every 2nd Wednesday in the month. Entrance is free and anyone interested is cordially invited to take part, also in the tour of the college. Meeting point on 12th June is Frankenring in front of the college Audimax. Car drivers should use the visitors’ car-park, Adlerstraße 35.
