A mayoral meeting of a special nature will take place on Tuesday 24th January at 18.00 hours at Haus der Seidenkultur (HdS).  At the museum in Luisenstraße 15, the current town mayor Frank Meyer and the former town mayor Willi Wahl, who in 1994 presented the “Golden Ribbon Award” to the French couturier Pierre Cardin, will meet at the “Golden Spinning Wheel”.

The current temporary exhibition at HdS is dedicated to Cardin to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first “Golden Spinning Wheel Award”, the first German “Fashion Oscar” which was presented to the French couturier.  This central thread unites the two top politicians in the town of Krefeld for whom Krefeld is still the “Town like Silk and Velvet”.

The tradition of a Krefeld fashion award is to be carried into the future. Emilia Breit, student at the Hochschule Niederrhein, has already created a new silk ribbon which is now on display in one of the HdS showcases.

The “Fashion Summit” between the two Krefeld mayors will be enhanced by the two dialect poets Heinz Webers (Krefeld) and Hans Wilbers (Uerdingen). They will present their opinion of the occasion in dialect.  “Another reason not to miss this special edition of the Silk and Velvet Round Table in the former Hubert Gotzes weaving factory,” says HdS spokesperson Dieter Brenner who will host the evening.
