The college “Hochschule Niedrrhein” is currently exhibiting probably the largest range of textile dyes in the world at the „Textil-Technikum“ in Mönchengladbach. The volunteers from Haus der Seidenkultur (HdS) learned this amongst other things during a “Thankyou Trip” organised by the museum committee to reward the HdS team for their commitment.
Visibly impressed by the range of colours was, point-paper designer, Günter Göbels, who also discovered dyes from the former Urdingen-based company ter Meer (forerunner of the Bayer-Werke). With the exception of Krefeld, flax dominated textile production in the Lower Rhine region until late in the 19th century. This topic – from working the land to a linen thread – was being explained to the HdS team in the picture below.
A visit to the “Königshofer” Brewery rounded off the illustrous tour. The management’s reason for organising the exclusive exceptional guided tour of the brewery: “HdS demonstrates great commitment to our Town like Silk and Velvet”.
