“At last (museum) land is in sight again. That means that Haus der Seidenkultur (HdS) will be opening again punctually at 13.00 hours on Sunday June 6th. Exactly one hour later the first public guided tour will start through the former Hubert Gotzes Weaving Workshop for Ecclesiastical Fabrics where from 1905 to 1992 precious liturgical vestments were produced for the Catholic Church.
The final days of the historic company were captured in a very elaborate television film which visitors can watch at the beginning of the 90-minute guided tour. Then live and in colour the “click-clack” sound draws the visitor’s attention to the nostalgic weaving workshop where time seems to have stood still.
However before the weaver could set his shuttle in motion, it was the pattern designer, pinpoint paper designer (here in the photo Günter Göbels) and the card puncher who carried out the preliminary processes which will be explained in detail during the guided tour. The actual process sequence is presented in the following film which we made for the “virtual Flax Market”: https://vimeo.com/538268694/312b6715ad
